Glen Hills Torch Relay

The Olympic torch comes to Leicester on Monday but we had our very own torch relay on Friday!

This was our fundraising project for the Faraja Orphanage in Tanzania. Every year the school raises money to pay the salary of a teacher at the orphanage. This year each class had the target of raising £35 towards that. Miss Smith thought it would be a good idea to run our version of the Olympic marathon and get sponsor money for doing it. Miss Smith and Mrs de Voil worked out that each child in the school had to run 99.4m and then we would have run the length of a marathon. Sadly, the real olympic torch had to go back to its owner but we made our own version instead!

The black clouds filled the sky but we went ahead anyway. At least there was no thunder and lightning today! All of year 5 lined up to take their turn and cheer everyone on.

The torch was beginning to look a bit bedraggled by now but luckily the flame didn’t go (or fall) out!

Everyone crowds round at the end of our very own torch relay.

Running the relay was great fun despite the weather. The cheerleaders kept going throughout the whole time and encouraged everyone.

Well Done year 5!

that relay was cool but quite scary because of the pressure you were under with everyone chanting your name

I think your idea of raising money for a charity was really good. Also, the idea of making your own olympic torch and having your own olympic torch relay was really good.
