If I was a River

We finished our week of looking at poems by Pie Corbett by writing another poem using one of Pie’s as a model. This time we looked at the poem ‘Wings’. We changed it to fit in with our geography work and wrote poems called ‘If I was a river’.

If I was a river
I would feel the jagged rocks
spike upon my back like swords

If I was a river
I would flow through woody forests
like an adventurer exploring lost jungles

If I was a river
I would blast through meanders
making speedy stones swirl to the end

If I was a river
I would head for the stormy sea
quickly zooming like a jet plane
                                                                                   by Max

If I was a river
I would glide through the lands
as the wind pushes me furiously

If I was  a river
I would run down the edge of a rocky cliff
as fast as a fox chasing a hen

If I were a river
I would swim amongst the fish
around the clear, fresh, green grass

If I was a river
I would swim around nature
as I hear crickets chirping
                                                                            by Lauren H

If I was a river
I would bend through the valley
and crash onto the eroded rocks

If I was a river
I would duck and dive my way
past fish and birds

If I was a river
I would crash down a water fall
as fast as a cheatah

If I was a river
I would bounce over high hills
like a kangaroo

Thes two poems are fantastic. Well done Max, Lauren and Joe. All three describe a river beautifully, and conjure up just how beautiful nature is when we take time to think about it. I especially liked Lauren’s ‘as fast as a fox chasing a hen’. I hope you carry on writing such lovely poems.

I like Lauren’s if I was a river poem . Then I like the I would swim amongst the
fish. Around the clear, fresh, green grass. So yeah, I like Lauren’s if I was a
    river.
